a handcrafted cajon with a solid build and solid sound
I designed the original series handcrafted cajon to be a grab-and-go instrument for beginners and experienced musicians alike. This is a traditional-style snare cajon with a single tapa (drum head). The design uses a strategic combination of 1/2-, 1/4- and 1/8th-inch Baltic birch (the same hardwood ply found in many traditional drums) to deliver an ideal balance of portability, playability, strength, and sound.

Dual snares enhance the snare sweet spot while still supporting separation between snare, corner slaps and bass sounds. A reinforced and radius-rounded bass port on the back of the cajon enhances depth as well as strength.
finishing touches
I apply three coats of water-based polyurethane with a low sheen (matte or satin) to create a clean, clear, and durable finish on all ōriginal series snare cajons.
As a final step, I hand-tune the tapa to a produce a crisp, raspy snare sound and bass response. I use hardened steel screws to improve longevity and reduce the chance of any spurs that can occur with softer screws.
